I Confess, I'm Afeared!!!

Paranoid loon, thy name is ferret. I have this horrible sense of foreboding. After 2000, and then 2004, it's hard to have faith in our elections. Vote switching, and suppression - here we go again. When you see people waiting 7 hours to early vote - what is this, some banana republic?!?!? I fear that tomorrow is going to be a cluster f**k for the ages!!! People shouldn't have to miss work, risk wages or even their jobs to vote. Is it as Rachel Maddow says, the new poll tax?

We need election day to be a national holiday. Or, is the solution to have mandatory vote by mail, like they do in Oregon? Move it to the first Saturday?

So, if you haven't already - VOTE! I'll check in before I lose consciousness after a 15-hour day at the polls...ain't democracy grand?

And now, for your (immature) viewing pleasure: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WX1ZGhaGjMo

"suffe"
tough it out

Ms. F, We're all afraid of the racism and power abuses that may turn this election into the worst ever.

But we're also all hopeful that this will be a convincing, resounding victory against the last 8 years. That would be a great start.

And if Obama overcomes everything and wins, what an amazing feat that will be. Go Obama!

Let's hope for a fair and untarnished election...and that the right man for the job will be the winner.

I hope that you dems will be gracious losers, if you should lose.

My call: since all the 'polls' have indicated a win for Obama, they democrats have established in America's mind that he should rightfully win. And when he doesn't, he won't concedede, and the socialist cadre of lawyewrs will fight this thing through the courts in key states with strategically placed "judges" who will then determine that Obama is president. We won't have a "President" for at least a month. Welcome to the new Socialist State of America.

wv: "ingskera"...a Russian word for takeover?

I voted at 8:00 AM and there was no line at all. I think Obama is going to win but for some strange reason, I feel ambivalent. The country is so totally fucked, it's not going to make a bit of difference. I surprised myself by voting for the Peace Party candidate for congress over Ellen Tauscher. I am only slightly less annoyed by middle-of-the-road Democrats like her, than I am with Republican scumbaggery. That being said, if I thought she had a chance of losing to the Republican, I might have voted for her anyway. Of the propositions, the one I hope passes is #11. It's a boring subject, (redistricting), but one that has numerous, inexpensive solutions.

15 hours at the polling place? Holy underwear!

Gina, isn't that what happened in 2000 with Bush? Everyone concluded he won, so the courts decided that counting the votes had to stop so as not to delegitimize the winner?

ginag... it's 2008, not 2000. What you described sounds just like 8 years ago. And let's not forget that to this very day, not one Supreme Court decision before or since Bush v. Gore declared itself in the decision to have no future bearing on law or can ever be used as precedent. It is unheard of in our history.

As for conceding graciously, I believe the Dems already did that when Gore stepped aside after being screwed by the "liberal" courts who still sided with Bush. (Are you aware that today, 8 years later, the courts are filled close to 70% by conservatives?)

As for going a month w/o a President. Not going to happen. Just as in 2000, Clinton remained President until the inauguration. The Electoral College has until Dec or early Jan (can't remember exactly) to finalize the results.

I'm sorry you seem so upset by this election, but now maybe you can understand the frustrations and anger of the Dems over the 2000 disaster and show a little empathy.

BTW, I meant to respond to an ealier post on the last thread: YES! I would be very angry if the Dems won an election through fraud. Cheating is cheating no matter who does it. I think the biggest concern for Republicans in Congress right now is that the Dems will treat them like shit... exactly the way Republicans starting treating the Dems after 2002. But I genuinely hope (that word again) that the Dems treat the Repubs with respect and show themselves better suited to lead.

Peace

The voter turnout is amazing. My polling place had two tables instead of the usual one, and at 7:20 a.m. my little kid and I still had to wait in line a while.
He was really interested in seeing me vote for Obama, yes on 2, and no on 8. But I got him to consider a couple of the other choices I made, too, before I had to drop him at schooll and find my roving cadre of socialist lawyers colleagues.

I'm feeling unusually optimistic.

and not really "gunestic" -- Wasilla slang for awesome?

I'm sorry. I fell asleep. Did McCain win yet?

Great news. Not just a win but a resounding win, across the board.

Obama hosts his election night party in a Chicago park and makes it open to all who want to come. McCain hosts is in a fancy hotel for a few who can afford the ticket. Excellent objective correlative for the difference between Democrat & Republican.

All in all, not a bad show for a corrupt capitalist empire.
