Let's Pretend

If you had the ear of President-Elect Obama, what would you say to him? Would you offer congratulations, ask for a job, give advice? Would you recommend people for cabinet positions or a family-friendly, hypo-allergenic breed of dog?

You tell me your 'hot topic' of discussion with P.E. O, and I'll tell you mine...

I just thought this was great, and wanted to share it with as many people as possible:

"Stifieca"??? How rude!

At the risk of losing my rational, objective, empirical cool, I just want to give him one piece of advice: Don't forget how blessed you've been, and always do the right thing, even if it's the hard thing, because you will always owe for those blessings.

cryoglem -- a very cold smile?

I would state the obvious just to remind PEBO that a whole bunch of us who voted for him know the score:
We need a Roosevelt, not a Carter.

WV: snuff (now I'm getting creeped out)

First off, I'd tell him to rest: he looks tired already, and I don't blame him...

Well, my last interaction with Hartal was definitely on the odd side, so I blame any eccentricities in this post on him (plus the fact that I saw about 10 minutes of Jackass Number Two last night).

If I had Obama's ear, I'd pack it in dry ice and fedex it to him posthaste.

I was fooling around on my Casio practice keyboard last night and started playing an oddly familiar tune, when I suddenly realized it was Odgen Edsl's Dead Puppies. Guess I better not tell Obama's kids about that one.

My birthday is coming up. My WV: "arelic". This day just keeps getting better and better.

I'd ask him to do something dopey but harmless so as to break the ice with America's nervous comedians.

forny? That's too easy

I would advise Mr. Obama that dogs are not very hygenic, and belong outside. Get a cat instead.

When's your birthday dsg? Mine's coming up soon, too.

I should have known that a guy who thinks he's a big horn sheep would be a a scorpio...

I find it troubling that you are not treating this topic with the seriousness I think it deserves...

Okay, I'm over it! I love the image, xootie. Do you think Obama and his staff can run a pick and roll on the economy? (That might not make any sense, as I'm not quite sure what the pick and roll is, exactly...)

If I had PrezBO's ear, I would just have one thing to say: Education. While there are plenty of fires that need putting out, the key to the future of the republic is - Education. Want to build a green economy, discover more alternative, sustainable & reusable energy - Education. Cut down on crime - Education. Compete in the global marketplace - Education. Have a knowledgable electorate (thereby ensuring a progressive America) - Education.

Dan Gonzales said...

Dear hostess, I also believe that education is key, but I'm not sure what the feds can do except throw money at it since education is, by and large, the responsibility of the states.

And my birthday has now passed.

And it's a G-O-A-T, not a bighorn sheep. :)

J.M. Ferretti said...

dsg - I thought you might enjoy my reference to "PrezBO", as a fellow WIRE fan...

Yes, throw money at it. Fund NCLB, hire that 'army of teachers' that we were promised in Obama's acceptance speech. We have the money if we stop warring with tactics and take on a real crisis afflicting our nation - ignorance! (Honestly, stupid people really annoy me!)

winkingtiger said...

Happy Belated Birthday, Signore DSGonzale!

Dan Gonzales said...

Yes, dear hostess, I did notice the reference, I meant to mention it.

Money for education...sounds like a plan, but what about results?

WT, thank you.

j.m. ferretti, though my post was in a joking manner, there was a modicum of seriousness in it as related to racial sensitivity in America. Obama has defied most stereotypes including those of many politicians and of a black man so at the moment, he's almost critic proof. And thus, comic proof.

And that may be a positive for the here and now and though we are living in historic times, we cannot rest on our laurels by having elected Obama. In a recent news article, the comedian D. L. Hughley related that on election night, he was in Harlem and elated and feeling that the country he loves has now shown it can love him too.

And then he waited for hours as cab after cab he flagged drove right past him.

I'm just saying we still have a ways to go in America. And I'm rambling.

Oh, and a belated happy birthday to you, dsgonzale6. Mine falls on Thanksgiving this year, as it does every 6 years or so.

Education is a sticky wicket. EVERY president, at the very least, on the surface, tries to emphasize that. Hell, even Bush had that "No Child Left Behind" thing that I never quite understood. Not that I honestly tried.
But I say it's a sticky wicket because what's taught in schools may contradict what's taught in the households and in the streets, on the part time job.
Getting youngsters brains working is indeed the only solution, worldwide. But our gracious hostess specifically brings up:

"Want to build a green economy, discover more alternative, sustainable & reusable energy - Education. Cut down on crime - Education. Compete in the global marketplace - Education. Have a knowledgable electorate (thereby ensuring a progressive America) - Education."

I apologize for being such a fatalist, but bringing these to the classroom will be challenged as much as Prop 8 was. The apathy or ignorance of the general public nationwide (and remember, we live HERE! So we're not as exposed) will be a factor in all these matters.
When education is brought up, nationwide, people just want to be sure their kids graduate.
The concern of what they actually learn is secondary. j.m. ferretti means we need to emphasize REAL education in lieu of passing grades and that's a real, real, almost insurmountable issue.
And again, don't get me wrong, I agree with our beloved hostess. I just think it's somewhat Utopian thinking. At least for the Obama administration. He can get it started and that would be great. But I don't see it happening in my lifetime.
Then again, I didn't see a gentleman who was half African being president in my lifetine either. So I hope I'm wrong.
But really.
When a VP candidate thinks your father is from the "country" of Africa, well...that really taints the importance of education.

Obama has mentioned completely de-funding NASA in order to fund "No Child Left Behind" 100% (Bush's plan is the best possible?!?!). Other than that, i haven't heard him address the education issue much. And how come, of the Three 'R's, only one actually begins with 'R"?

WV: flaritiv (don't ask)

TedSpe said...

winkingtiger, I feel defunding NASA 100% is a mistake. We need to use all resources to get where we have to get when the gettin's no good here on Mother Earth

Yeah, there's education and then there's education. Sarah Palin's parents are teachers, aren't they? Bet they used mercator projection maps of the world in Wasilla.
