Okay, I understand the Republicans and Democrats are different. I get that Conservatives and Liberals see the government's role in vastly differing ways. What I don't get, what I will probably never understand, is how you can call yourself a public servant, and put party politics and loyalty above the good of the nation! How else do you explain that not one single House Republican supported the stimulus bill? They claim principle, that the bill was too expensive, that they have a better plan... Uh, why didn't they suggest their better plan before? Why did the Boner (aka John Boehner, R-OH) ask for 100% opposition before the President even went to visit with Republican leaders?
I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that the people who gladly took it up the behind for Bush would be just as eager to screw the American people if it made Obama look bad. However, they obviously learned nothing from 2006 & 2008 - the American people are tired of obstructionist behavior by the Republicans. The nation can't afford to have it's elected officials playing politics, there is too much at stake. These folks think that their seats are safe, that they are in districts that are so conservative they have nothing to fear. However, if things don't get better, even their constituents are going to start feeling the pain of the coming depression. It's time to make sure that the Boner and his gang feel our pain, in the only way they understand it - vote 'em out in 2010!!!

I don't see anything wrong with symbolic gestures. Let's not forget -- Obama didn't win unanimously. And the republicans are really well heeled and really tough. Believe me. I know those people. And corporations.
I flip around after the Sbowl tonight and find an interesting piece on 60 Minutes on Obama. My 11 year kid was an enthusiastic Obama supporter from day one. Now the man's President. We like that fact in this house. Indeed, the fact that Obama is president is good news every time I'm reminded of it.
xootie - I still find myself with this pleasantly-surprised feeling everytime I hear someone say 'the President' and I realize they're talking about Obama. I wonder when that will wear off.
I won $100 in our company Super Bowl pool today. Woo-Hoo!!!!!
Ah, Zoot--corporate law and conservative politics?
You must know my father-in-law.
they are still playing partisan politics...I wonder how long it will take them to figure out that the entire country is SICK of partisan politics.
What I keep hearing from them is the "government is the problem" mantra. It was a stupid statement when Reagan said it, and it's still a stupid statement. Government is a tool, a means for achieving goals. We can have stupid government, or we can have smart government. And we can have good goals, or we can have bad goals.
I can see why a congressman might play 'spoiler'; their constituencies are usually a lock and they are playing to the crowd and socking it to those lefties. Why a Senator would be so strictly partisan at this point eludes me, because as JMF points out, they could be easily voted out...soon.
The fate of the country is tied to the fate of the P{resident, whether you like him or not. This was true in Bush's case aswell. He failed, and the country did too. If Obama succeeds, that should 'trickle down' too. And if he suceeds, it will make those playing spoiler now look that much worse.
Should we also pronounce it "Baying Aircraft?" ;-)
God, ferret, are you really that dumb? Do you really expect more than a functionary lukewarm response from conservatives? Perhaps an enthusiastic ASS-KISSING--like what you gave to Bush from the start?
Fat chance. A little obstruction never hurt anyone. You screaming libtards are the Queens of double-standards. We're 'conservative' in more ways than one. We're just waiting and watching and for the man to hang himself--give the 'Savior' enough rope...
I'm just waiting to see what will transpire when B.O. passes FOCA. That should be interesting.
Great - and what are the people supposed to do while the Republicrooks are posing around the Capitol? In case you haven't noticed, the country is in serious economic trouble. Instead of keeping Obama from getting things done, maybe they could offer up some ideas. Oh, I forgot, the Republitards are bereft of ideas, which is why they always have to resort to obstruction.
You may be heartened by this, Gina the future of your party appears to be Sarah Palin and Joe the Fake Plumber. You must be so proud!
Heard a guy from Nevada this morning comparing the current Republican posture to gamblers betting the back line, betting against the shooter. "Wrong bettors" win when everyone else at the table is losing. Clever guy, huh? He also mentioned that the Republicans have begun calling the stimulus bill the "Democratic spending" bill.
Meanwhile, Sarah Palin continues her assault on the Beluga whale. The war never ends.
Xoot: Palin wants your icon, too.
The really sad part is, there might actually be things wrong with the stimulus package, but we'll never know, because the complaining from the right is so obviously partisan, and not based on anything specific other than being 'spoilers'.
Where's the opposition we can respect? I don't like the idea of a one-party system, regardless of which party it is, (I'm registered Independent) but the Repubs will never win any seats back without a clear (contrasting) vision of their own. Although, when they scream about the Dems being in charge of all 3 houses, that's a bit disingenuous. Last time I looked, the Supreme Court was hardly a left-wing bastion.
Opposition is a good idea - I don't want a rubber stamp Congress. If you have better ideas, then put them forth to make a better bill. What the House Republicans did was posturing for it's own sake, and that's what I find frustrating. They had decided before Obama went to them (how many times in his first week in office did Bush do that?) that they were going for 100% opposition. Just once, I'd like to see Republicans provide solutions, instead of road blocks. The stakes are too high for this gamesmanship!
You can drive down the Kenai peninsula and see pods of Belugas swimming close to shore. The highway is (or used to be, anyway) at water's edge. The whales are like oversized snow white dolphins. They are able to turn their heads slightly and they do, to look up at the people staring down at them, aiming cameras, pointing. Think the "smile" means anything?
.
I see that McCain just criticized Obama's stimulus plan as a giveaway to special interests and "high rollers." Casinos call high rollers "whales." This is all coming together very nicely, today.
John "Craps" McCain would know from high rollers. Grampy loves to throw them bones!
Is that you, Zoot?
I thought that was Teddy K...
You mock my political obsession at your peril, Gina. God dearly loves all his/her swimmin critters.
Bush had a honeymoon; anyone who doesn't acknowledge that fact is too poisoned by partisanship to be of any use in fixing our current problems.
Republicrooks? Republitards? How offensive!
I am just sitting back, waiting to see who else in Obama's prospective cabinet didn't pay taxes...no wonder demoCRACKHEADs love to raise our taxes! It's not as if THEY actually intend to pay them! Yeah, you liberals think you are so smart, yet the leaders you follow like lemmings can't figure out how to pay their taxes. Meanwhile, us upstanding citizens will continue to support the stupid, lazy masses. Lord knows if one of us "forgot" to pay taxes, we'd likely be thrown in jail.
But hey, count me as one more on your "Hope and change" bandwagon!
Anonymous, but you can just call me "Watching".
call that due process denied, one of the darkest moments in Supreme Court history.

like Italian racing red?
That would be Ferrari red.
Or for the more enlightened, Rubino.
I knew some Rubinos. Little Nancy was my favorite.
I don't think so. I think the standard was all British teams, British racing green, all Italian teams, Italian racing red, etc.
Not where I grew up. Lotsa woods and lotsa Rubinos.
Anonymous - would you care to let us know who you are? Otherwise, I will be forced to play 'post Nazi', and I hate that game...
I'm xootsuit working too hard to log in. Sorry. I thought the linked donut story was amusing. Shows what I know.
Hey, I didn't delete you...it probably was funny, I didn't open it. I'm just trying to be consistent in my zero tolerance policy. Xootie, you know you're ALWAYS welcome!
I grew up around lotsa Rubino's, too, TooSense. They must be everywhere. Where you from? Or is it a secret?
Hey, TooSense...maybe you were her favorite. Check this out. Are you French, too?

Xootie - does that mean that Krispy Kreme = Murder??? (Only to my diet...)
I don't know. But the issue raises a hole lot of interesting questions about the conflict between desire and responsibility.
I don't know if we were reading the same article or not, but what message being parlayed here? That a company was willing to handout a FREE treat to celebrate a historical event? So what. I can't think of a more appropriate time to eat something like that. Are you listening, TWINNIE?
And, Zoot, 'all work and no play makes Johnny a very dull boy'. I mean, if you starve yourself of the things you enjoy because of someone else's ironclad rules of responsibility, one becomes lifeless and angry...and more prone to making radical, irresponsible choices.
What's the point of slaving away if you can't give into desires once in a while?
Anonymous/Watching, you have no room to talk about lemmings, it's the right-wing religious nuts of the GOP whose critical thinking skills have atrophied from lack of use. How many of the folks here have said, "Oh, Daschle should be able to get away with it, Obama is fine with it"? The truth is that a large number of people who voted for Obama were disturbed by the failure to pay taxes, and Obama acknowledged the mistake. That's not lemming-like--that's called being able to adapt. Adaptation, a major component of evolution--oh, wait, those right-wing lemmings reject evolution and don't believe in it. Sorry.
WV--redsho. Funny. BTW, in the store yesterday, I saw a bottle of soda called "Leninade" with a big hammer and sickle, and the slogan "Join the Party!" It cracked me up.
'The energetically professional if forced and generally unfunny script -- littered with puns and references to popular culture from Greek and Roman times to the present -- provides a huge, Zero Mostel type of opportunity for the central character, a fictional playwright named Scribonius (John Vickery), who is onstage for the entire 2 1/4 hours as narrator, commentator and participant.'
ouch.
And, according to the author, is is an auto-biographical piece. Which means only one thing...that the nut is Nero.
Now, if we could just figure out who the mistress and eunich are...
This is funny...
hm.
Mistress is his job.
Eunuch is what he's become.
Can't write worth shit because he sold his soul to the Hearse Corpse.
