I don't watch a lot of television, and, since I live in California the only way I would ever see a political ad would be if I watched Fox News...I'd rather get a root canal without Novocaine! So, I tend to see them on the YouTube, usually after some sort of scandal has erupted. What I've found all too often during this election cycle is that John McCain's campaign will create an ad that take some incredible liberties with the 'truth'. Then, the Obama campaign creates an ad refuting the assertions in the McCain ad. Unfortunately, by that time, the McCain camp has released a new, different ad with it's own special relationship with the 'truth'.
This got me to thinking. I'd like to see Obama (or a 527) come out with their own McCain ad - going on the offensive, but still being honest. It's not as sexy or newsworthy, but it's be nice to see my candidate out front with his message, instead of discussing McCain's ads. Armed with the google, wikipedia, and Windows Movie Maker (tm), I made a commercial I'd like to see. (I know there's a lot of reading. Imagine it's a voiceover by, I don't know, Dennis Haysbert...)
Do you have a commercial that you wish a candidate would make?
(If you don't think this utter crap, please share it with others: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaiDlUyKmqU)

That was great FH! What was the backround music?
I was making a commercial for Al Franken's denate campaign, I'd use this clip, over and over.

Yogi - Thank you! It is "Run On" from Moby's album PLAY. I think the song is older, but I love how it talks about throwing a rock and hiding your hand, reaping what you sow, etc. I was actually going to use a version of "Money" but the only one I have is the Flying Lizards...
Is this where I am supposed to pat you on the head and say good job? By the way, are you related to Roy and Nancy Ferretti?
ferret, great video. You're right about the voice over, though. Republicans hate reading. If they must read, they prefer ALL CAPS. And you might want to throw in a few pictures of jesus holding a gun in front of a waving flag, surrounded by blue-eyed, pink rugrats. And if you can put some effects on it that make it look like it's on TV, then it's as good as gospel.
MR.TOOSENSE: WHY SO INTOLORENT OF CHRISTIANS? OBAMA IS ONE AND, BY THE WAY, BIDEN IS A CATHOLIC THATSTILL BELIEVES IN TAKING COMMUNION FROM A PRIEST.
YOU ALSO HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO PROVE THAT GOD DOESN'T EXIST.
APPARENTLY, YOUR TWO CANDIDATES THINK GOD IS FOR REAL, OR AT LEAST, PROFESS TO.
rightchoice - no, this is where you tell me what you think. I request honest interaction here - and if you think it's crap tell me so...but, tell me why. I'm not afraid of a challenge, that's why I keep asking people to come to the blog - I want all opinions, not just mine. (I'm guessing you won't be one of those who shares the YouTube link...)
No, I am not acquainted with Roy and Nancy Ferretti. There appear to be a lot of Ferretti's in the area - and I'm not related to any of them! (I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to delete your double post...)
Ferret...that was great work by the way. I think lobbyist are one of the main reasons why this country is in such sad shape. I wish we could do away with them altogether.
Keep the focus on common ground...you'll have better results.
You wrote "I'd like to see Obama (or a 527)"
Forgive my ignorance, but what's a 527?
And BTW, are you related to Tony and Zelda Ferretti?
I hope I used the right code - 527 groups are the work-around on the McCain-Feingold election finance reform bill. Groups like MoveOn and SwiftBoat Liars - I mean Veterans for 'Truth'... Obama seems reluctant to bring the campaign down to the level necessary to fight McCain - they have definitely lowered the bar for decorum in this campaign. From my understanding, Obama has sort of asked the 527's to take the high road, since they reflect on the campaign, even though they are independent.
Nope, not related to Tony & Zelda, either. Had I known that Ferretti was so common, I would have asked my parents to change my last name to 'Smith'!
Thanks j.m. ferretti. Yes, I think I read about 527 around 4 years ago and completely forgot.
So, are you related to...
Okay, I'll stop now
gina, I'm so glad you underscored that Obama is a christian in all caps, so our confused friends on the right (is that redundant?) will finally realize this truth about him. The proof of god's nonexistence is self-evident. You must first abandon your reliance on faith, then you will see it.
TooSense--what ever are you yammering about now?. Please enlighten me, swami.
ps. I don't consider myself a republican. I just felt like writing in all caps. It sounded fun at the time.
Darn it all, I finally remembered to watch the Rachel Maddow Show, but they are having technical difficulties. Oh well, I'll tune in to Air America at seven.
FH, were you in the band, Ferretti & the Dreamers?
I wonder if Ferret's real last name is LaSalle.
Because, ya know, everyone knows how much LaSalle loves to talk politics, and for some unknown reason he's mum going into the home stretch.
It would make perfect sense. I mean if he was banned for talking politics 'cause he's such a big Hillary suppoter, the Hearse Corp isn't about to let any employee of theirs interfere with their campaigning.
What I really wonder is if the HearseCorp., considering devisive Morford's column, even really wants Obama to win at all. I mean, considering their warmongering history, there's more money to be made in the news business during a controversial war than no war at all.
god, I gotta quit laughing when I write. I meant to say "considering how divisive Morford's collumn was"
gina - I think that Mick stopped writing about politics because he was such a huge Clinton supporter, and beat up on Obama so much, he's chagrined. Plus, now what is he to do - he was pretty down on McCain, but said he'd prefer him to Obama. Now, is that a position that you would want to have to defend? Yikes!
Plus, MLS would never identify himself as a bleeding heart Liberal. He thinks that Reagan was one of the great Presidents - I think he was one of the worst!!! (Funny note: he and I share a birthday...)
Though she doesn't have columns as often as Morford, I think Cinnamon Stillwell is just AWFUL!!! From my perspective, Morford at least admits that this is purely opinion stuff - and takes a humorous slant on things. Stillwell acts like she's posting factual information...even if it were, by the time she's twisted it to fit her perspective, it no longer resembles fact.
Then there's Debra Saunders...(shudder)
Funny, I wouldn't consider myself a bleeding heart liberal either. I'm just against narrow minded hypocrites and liars. Unfortunately I also have a bad habit to lose my temper when faced with same.
But I'm not anti-republican. Heck, I registered as one when I turned 18. There are many people in my life who are republican. We often disagree on certain things but we can agree on just as many. But then, they are Californians first and foremost.
Funny thing about Debra Saunders is her stance on the War on Drugs. But then again, she, too, is a Californian.
Ferret. I guess. He doesn't seem like the type that would ever admit defeat. I still think there's a different reason.
As for Morford. Ugh. He just makes me ill. He's not even funny...except maybe to himself. He always sounds like a broken record. Blah, blah, blah. Just have some regular sex already and shut the heck up.
Nevius...now there is a man full of comedic genius. For reason, though he all business. One of my very favorites is Jon Carroll. Pure nonsense...I love it.
And as for Stillwell and Saunders? Boring. It's more fun to read someone with some fascinating thoughts...even if you don't agree with them.
